As the sad news that an entertainment icon like Suzanne Somers lost Her battle with cancer broke yesterday, I couldn't help but be sad for many reasons. When I found the above pic, my thoughts began to crystallize around what an Icon She was. Beauty, grace, humour, style, sex appeal, and a dazzling smile that could light up the Vegas strip, were onl just some of Her amazing attributes.
If you grew up a child of the 80's (or even earlier) you couldn't help but have a crush on Suzanne. She was the Girlfriend you could only dream of. If you knew your sissy side then, there wouldn't be a sissy who never channelled their inner Chrissy Snow, when trying on Women's shorts and tank tops. I know I did.
Yesterday I was chatting with Lady Diva about how fortunate I am to have lived in a time where I saw the last era of classic Hollywood beauties. Suzanne Somers, Raquel Welch, Linda Carter, Jan Smithers, Priscilla Pressley, Sophia Loren, Ann Margret, Morgan Fairchild, Joan Collins and more. They were real Women, beautiful Women, without the plasticized fillers, tattoos, and hyper porn doll looks that abound today.
Suzanne and those of Her era, inspired us to be beautiful in our own ways, and She remained a classic beauty into Her later years. It's hard not to feel sad now that She is gone.
As a sissy, I will always try and carry the playfulness She always showed, and every time I wear anything in pastel pink, blue or yellow, I will always try and honour Her memory. Godspeed Suzanne..
